Hey WHAT are we really EATING!! Food in its raw form is usually the best! Why are we paying to be poisoned! Who knew – I read this article and thought I was being cautious! Did not even consider my soy protein powder.
Soy is the cheapest protein available today, and it is a major component of most animal feeds. Cheap soy protein allows chickens to grow the fastest, and produce the maximum amount of eggs during their peak laying cycles. So why do Rob and I pay more for organic, soy-free chicken feed? Why do we read labels and avoid eating highly processed soy products like the plague?
Because soy beans are very high in phytic acid and isoflavones. Phytic acid blocks absorption of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. The phytic acid in soy beans is not reduced or neutralized by soaking, sprouting or long, slow cooking. Soy Isoflavones mimic estrogen in the body. Soy processing leads to the formation of toxic nitrosamines (carcinogens) and the formation of MSG. Additional MSG is often added to soy products during manufacturing. Many soy products contain high levels of aluminum.

Think Thin Bars are “OH” so yummy!
I am always on the go! If I got the time I go for a good salad or some fruit. After saying that we all know sometimes hunger gets the best of us and time is often an issue for us moms! Before you grab some junk food try one of the Think Thin Bars. They are 230 calories, 20 grams of protein, have no trans fat and 0 sugars. Be aware they do not have much fiber and 25 carbs. They are gluten-free, organic and come in a lot of flavors. The bars are really yummy, my favorite is the chocolate espresso. They had no funny after taste and a creamy texture and fewer calories than a lot of protein bars. I thought it was very satisfying. But remember this is more of a meal replacement if you counting calories and they are little pricey.
JUST A DISCLAIMER: I did not receive these products for free or was NOT paid to try them! Just a MOM on a mission to keep my girlish figure!!
OK It is late afternoon and feeling starved as usual! I am in Target on last minute errands before school carpool. Now I am on a mission to find a quick snack with some protein and fiber, without breaking my calorie bank! After all I do have a snack criteria that generally includes no processed sugar, some protein and fiber. The other rule I try to follow but it can be difficult, is that I have to be able to prononunce all the ingredients!!
I found the LaraBar! I had seen this talked about on the biggest looser so I thought I would check it out. Only 3 ingredients, and all of them I can spell! It has protein and fiber and no cholesterol. It is vegan and gluten-free. It does have about 8 sugars depending on the flavor you pick but it is all natural.
I picked up a multi-flavor box and dashed to the car. I tried 3 different flavors; cherry pie, cashew cookie, and apple pie. They were good not my favorite but good. Also they run about 230 calories so be aware when counting calories. I liked the apple pie the best. I think it was a texture thing. I tend to like more crunchy snacks. My kids were not fond of them. My vote is I would buy them again especially if I were traveling for a quick snack to go anywhere! Share your opinions.
Good reason to get a little nutty! Yum I love all kinds of nut butters.( see attached link for nutrition information on different nut butters) But if you are going to indulge go with the raw form it is much better for you! Grind your own and even go crazy and mix nuts! My favorite way to eat peanut butter is on Mestemacher fitness bread. It is fantastic when toasted and is even great alone besides being full of grains and only 120 calories. The slices are a good size and are very dense. One slice really fills me up and you can change it up with what ever toping you want or even fresh sliced bananas. This product has no preservatives, cholesterol free and 6 grams of fiber. Ingredients are simple all grains, nothing that needs a medical degree to figure out what is in it.
Product Spotlight: Miracle Noodle. I had for the first time! were good but I also had a great homemade sauce on them wih alot of veggies! I will will be trying and will share some of my recipes soon! Just thought I wanted to share cause these are now appearing at alot local health food stores.
Name of the game is fast snack on the go! Now my personal disclaimer is if you have time and are not out on the go eating raw fresh fruits and veggies is the way to go! Now after saying that I have 3 kids, work schedule, soccer and not to mention a carpool and I am a snacker. I prefer to eat healthy but in between meals I search for snacks for “on the go” instead of reaching for junk food from a fast food restaurant. My college student is also looking for healthy alternatives that does not require preparation for the dorm.
I know what your thinking but hang on! BUT – If you’re gonna snack it might as well be nutritious. These crunches are 100% Organic Peas, no wheat, gluten-free and only 7 grams of sugar. They also contain 6 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein which will help you feel full. They are only 104 calories per serving. The peas manufacture claim that the freeze-drying process maintains the enzymes and nutrients.
NOW for the real test “THE TASTE” They are very crunchy and satisfy my need to crunch. At first I thought they were bland but the more I ate the more favorable they seemed. Now for me I always like to change things up! I sprayed olive oil and added an italian seasoning on them and even my teenager loved them that way. Do put too much oil or it will make them soggy. These peas would be great added to salads or anything else you can think of.
Out of a rating from 1 -10, 10 being the best; I rate this snack a 6. My three kids rated them from a 2 -6. My youngest would not even try them. I know for me I want to feel good about what I am putting in my body and my kids need more convincing!
Happy Snacking – Share what you think!
fat-free and have no gluten. And as far a ingredients go there is only 3! They have less than a gram of sugar and low sodium. The down side is they do not contain much nutrition. There is only a little fiber and protein. But as far as a quick snack goes they are very tasty and a protein can be added with a little raw almond butter or a spread of your choice! Now on a personal note they are very crunchy and make me feel I am eating something naughty and salty. Now the serving size is just for two corn thins, but with almond butter it is very filling and a great quick snack. My kids gave it a thumbs up!
I consider my self one of the Queens of snacks. What I usually look for is snacks that are high in fiber with some protein which helps to control my hunger. Snacks that are relatively low in sugars, less than 7 grams unless it is natural. I also search for items that are under 200 calories, preferably 100 calories or I do not consider them snacks. I also try to kid test the snacks I feature but some of the things I really enjoy my kids have not developed a pallet for. I am also not getting paid to try these snacks and purchase them myself in most cases! However I wish I was!
If you enjoy snacks and are looking for a healthier alternative please join me in future posts!
Hey, Hey Just a quick snack review! I tried these for myself and they were great! They even passed the kid and HUSBAND test! They all loved them! Now typically when I recommend a snack I require MORE FIBER and MORE PROTEIN content. BUT a holiday weekend and all! The Popschips are a quick satisfying snack for 120 cal. But what I do love is there are no preservatives, colors or hydrogenated oils. They may not be packed with protein but fit the bill for salt cravings! I vote a thumbs up!!
As an employee in the health and fitness field, I am always on the lookout for a tasty snack that will help satisfy my cravings without feeling deprived.
This is where popchips come in handy.
popchips are a type of chip made from real potatoes that have been transformed into a kernel-like substance and then “popped” using basic heat and pressure.
Following the “popping” process, the chips are then seasoned with all natural ingredients, as well as a touch of “non-hydrogenated, non-gmo sunflower, safflower and/or canola oil”.
They also contain NO;
- fake colors
- saturated fat
- trans fat
- hydrogenated oils.
- Sour cream and Onion
- Sea Salt & Vinegar
- Parmesan Cheese
- Salt & Pepper
- Chili Lime
- Sweet Potato
